The Humane Society Yukon’s second puppy flight of the year took place on the
morning of Friday, September 10. Seven little pups were gathered up and made ready to fly to Victoria and
new, loving homes. At 5:30 am they were amazingly quiet and calm, lying peacefully – for the most part –
in their crates. Their human handlers were more alert and anxious than the little ones!
After several hours in Vancouver with our partner Worldwide Animal Travel, they arrived at Victoria International Airport where they caused quite a stir, according to Penny Stone, the manager of the Victoria SPCA. Word had leaked out and there was a crowd there to meet them. Penny has said she figures they’ll receive close to 50 applications for the pups. Not long ago they took in 42 Chihuahuas and to review 250 applications!
We have made our 3th and final trip of the year (third trip, four kennels). This will make a total of 13 puppies sent to Victoria for 2010 for an approximate savings to the Shelter of $ 6,500. This is a huge savings and many thanks to our partner in this venture, Air North, the Yukon’s only pet friendly airline!
