Meet Bigwig, he is a 3 yr old partially blind husky who was advertised on our web site as:
desperately seeking a loving new family. Ideally he is looking for a home that has a recreational dog team as he thrives on being part of the team. Because of his partial blindness he is quite skittish so therefore will require some gentle handling.
Bigwig is now living in Caroline, Alberta, thanks to the assistance of many friends. The pictures tell the story of how happy he is in his new home.

Hi Barb !!

Have had him twice under harness with the cart (it is actually a trike made out of dirt bike parts, you can see it in the background of one of the photos) and he did fabulous. He fit right in and loves to go!! He prances all around in anticipation when the other dogs go wild when they know I am going for the harnesses.
All is well here !!

Hi Barb
I brought Bigwig home from the vet today and he did well with the surgery. He never lost his appetite! and seemed relieved to be back in the kennel in somewhat familiar territory. I was concerned he might pack his suitcase and move out on me...
" hmmmppff, you guys drug me, put me on a plane, fly me who knows where in the belly of a turbo jet, collect me off in my drugged stupor, wheel me around a busy international airport on a suitcase cart , put me in the back of a Subaru wagon, drive for another 2 hours in blistering heat, let me out to meet a klutzy St Bernard, take me for a walk when I could barely stand up straight, then later to meet a pack of wolves ( or so I thought ) ... but all was forgiven 'cause there was lots of FOOOOOD .....BUT.... just when I started to like it with walks and cart runs with the wolves ... back into the back of a Subaru wagon, drive for an hour, take me into a place reeking of disinfectant, knock me out yet again, take away my manlihood, manicure my nails, clean the dirt from my ears that, by the way, helped to muffle the chaos of the "wolves" when the harnesses came out ... and back into the Subaru in sweltering heat, drive for another hour, and out again to meet that klutzy St Bernard and that same pack of wolves !!! ......... but there must be some love behind all of this ......... and best of all .......... there's still lots of FOOOOOOOD !!............. I think I'll like it here ........ "

Hey all you people and pets up there in the north !
Well, a little time has passed since my ride in the belly of a turbo jet, landing me in my new home with the pack of wolves and crazy St Bernard. I have fit in really well, the wolves have accepted me fully and now I am able to share the big straw filled hut with the whole pack !
The St Bernard still irritates me, he jumps around and gets tangled in the lines all the time. He is not even harnessed with us, he just has to jump and twist all over. He is a klutz, not as fine and refined as us sled dogs .... but Mom loves him and I have to just put up with him leaping ... ( all 90 lbs ! )... and twisting. Sheeesh.
We finally have SNOW SNOW SNOW, and this afternoon we took our first run out with the sled. Wow! That was fun. We even managed to try to chase a deer that the St Bernard flushed out of the bush! Of course, we didn't have a hope, but we had fun trying.
All is well here and just want to thank everyone at the shelter for helping me with my move to my new home in Alberta. I am not skittish at all anymore, and even jump up for pats and scratches behind the ears. Once in awhile I bump into the fence, but have learned where everything is and am well oriented now. Everyone is careful to not move the houses around and the dishes remain in exactly the same place. I even have my own basketball that I love to chase and chew on, actually, I have had more than one basketball ( I wreck them too fast apparently ... ), and the other dogs don't show much interest. Better for me I figure, don't you? I can find the ball with little difficulty and spend every effort trying to chase it down and catch it.; With the exception of running, my favorite part of the day is supper, and I have put on some weight to combat the cold of the impending winter. Life is good and again, thank you Barb and everyone at Mae Bachur Animal Shelter, and the staff at Air North for helping me find my way to my new home.
Will touch base again, maybe send some pictures of all of us under harness.

Hi Barb !
I have attached a few pictures for everyone to see how fun it is here in Alberta !
That's me, the right wheel dog, having a blast with my new pack of wolves !
And that big black dog up front, mixing up all the lines, is Hoffa, the crazy St Bernard ... did I ever mention that he irritates me ? ... twisting and turning and causing tangles ... ? !
The last picture is us fine and refined, sleek and smooth sled dogs ... ( all so badly tangled we look as though we were supposed to be fan-hitched) hahaha ! That tangle took some time to straighten out !
Happy Mushing !
