Buddy

In Memory of BUDDY

Beautiful, big, white, loving Buddy, about 8 years old. Buddy was killed accidentally on 13 November 2001.

Much loved dog of Carolyn, Bob and Michael. Soulmate of our dog Shelby; companion to Doug and Donna’s dog Sandy; role model to our pup Chewie. Buddy was much loved by Zachariah and Eleanor, who will miss him all the more now.

His presence on this earth, his sweetness, his loyalty enhanced our lives. He was a gentleman; many of us are better for having known him. We will keep him in our hearts and scatter his ashes on the hillside he loved.

There will never be another Buddy. I am grateful to all the kind people who came to my assistance. Many thanks to George and Marilyn of Atlin Pet Care for knowing just what to do.

Sincerely, Carolyn

A Short Story

Nov 15, 2001

That morning he was goofing around with me in the front hall because he wanted to make sure I took him to the store with me. He was howling and lunging toward me and and even swiped me with his paw once or twice. He liked car rides!

I parked across the street from the store. He and Shelby and I started across the road. They got ahead of me and I called them back. The road was slick with ice and Buddy lost his footing. He went under the wheels of a truck. He managed to get up and come to me and Shelby. He laid down on his side and died. It was all that fast...

Last Tuesday night I put three candles out, one on the deck and 2 along the hillside where Buddy used to sit. Under the fresh snow in all three places I could feel the slab of ice his body warmth had created. During the night, Shelby woke me twice to open the door and check for Buddy. His body was in the car just outside the front door. In the morning she lay on the deck next to the candle and looked out over the hillside as they used to do.

I feel as if Buddy is still very strongly with us.
