Taiga (she was Burr while she lived at the shelter) was adopted by us on August 26, 2000 and she moved down to Juneau, Alaska to become part of our lives. Since then so many things have changed for us and for her. I am not quite sure why we got so lucky with this little bundle of happiness, and where she learned to read the emotions of people and other dogs so carefully, but I guess ultimately that doesn't matter. Taiga was shy and hesitant at first but time changed her into an incredible athlete and the envy of many dog owners in our neighborhood. She is loved by all other dogs and never leaves a passer-by ungreeted. She has converted angry dogs to friendly dogs, old dogs to puppies, shy dogs to playful dogs and bored dogs to tired dogs. All this happens on the beach in front of our house, where she serves as the local dog psychologist who never lets another dog leave the beach in a bad mood. In the house, she lives the life of a princess and comedian, never leaving a night go by without making us laugh, never falling asleep without a well fed belly and a big pillow to rest her tireless body.
Some nights I look into her eyes and I wonder where all this wisdom, energy, and love of life comes from, and she always answers me by rolling over, exposing her belly and asking for just one more belly rub before going to bed, as if that is the answer to all of life's problems, and maybe she is right.
I am so happy we adopted her and love every single moment of interaction with her, she is the creator of energy and a lot of laughter and leaves me and my husband wondering whatever we did before she came to our lives.
Taiga was very sad to find out that Hobbit was back at the shelter. She shared a bunk with Hobbit while she was there and hates to see her back. She wishes all the animals and staff at the shelter a happy new year, filled with chances to fill someone's heart and home.
Thank you,
Taiga, Chris and Benthe Mertl
